The five elements of earth, air, fire, water, and ether were originally brought into conception by the Greeks. They believed these elements made up everything there is in the world, including you. We are not only surrounded by nature; we are nature.
Earth Element
Earth is the most physical or tangible element. The ground, rocks, plants, trees—earth. Relating to the chakra or energy system in the body, the earth is most connected to the root chakra that is responsible for your sense of grounding.

Water Element
Water is considered a regenerative element. Bodies of water, rain, showers, tears—water. As humans, it’s important to note that we are composed mainly of water. We are, truly, water beings with an ability to connect to the healing power of water. Water is related to the second chakra or energy system of the body, the sacral chakra. The sacral chakra is related to fluidity, femininity, empathy, and sensuality. Given that ocean tides are ruled by the moon, this pulls on the femininity expressed by water, as the moon is a yin element in nature.

Fire Element
Fire is a hot, destructive element. Conceptually, the element of fire is so easily depicted through a forest fire. Forest fires forge the creation of new life through a determining consumption. Fire is both bright and warm, but it is important for there to be boundaries. Much as uncontrolled forest fires can wreak havoc and create a danger to surrounding plants and animals, too much fire within you can create a hot temper. This element is related to the third chakra in the energy system, the solar plexus chakra. This chakra is related to movement, transformation, and change.
Connect to the fire element:
Embrace change with this Solar Plexus Class.
Air Element
Air is the element that you would think of as wind in nature and breath in your body. Air is related to the heart chakra, or the fourth chakra in the energy system. The heart energy center is related to love and compassion.

Ether Element
Ether is everything else in space that is not air: it is elusive; it is the space that air takes up. The element ether is sometimes described as the sky above, in its full expansion. Ether is related to the fifth chakra, the throat chakra. Its energy is one of self-expression, freedom, and sound.

Working with Natural Forces in Your Body
When you’re working with the elements in your body, it is best to start from the feet and work your way up. Grounding practices and meditations can help you feel secure and at ease so you can work your way up to the more expansive, ethereal energy of air and ether.
